Earth 'Facing Mass Extinction'
[ Earth 'facing mass extinction' ] - The world is facing a mass extinction event that could be greater than that of the dinosaurs, new Australian research shows.

He compiled data from nearly 100,000 fossil collections worldwide, tracking the fate of marine animals during extreme extinction events some 250 million years ago.
The findings, published this week in the international journal Science, showed a major extinction

Drunk American Man Loses $1.9m Artwork
[ Drunk US man 'lost' $1.9m artwork ] - Call it the lost art of drinking responsibly: A man entrusted with helping to
sell a $1.3 million (NZ$1.9 million) painting said it disappeared while he was in a drunken haze, according to a lawsuit filed by a co-owner of the canvas.
James Carl Haggerty took the painting, noted French artist Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot's circa 1857 "Portrait of a Girl," to a Manhattan hotel on July 28 for a
potential buyer to examine, Kristyn Trudgeon's lawsuit said. Then Haggerty hung out at the hotel bar and was seen on security cameras leaving the building with the painting after midnight, according to the lawsuit.
But there was no sign of the portrait on the cameras at his Manhattan apartment building when he got
home nearly two hours later, the lawsuit said. And the next morning,
Haggerty told painting co-owner Thomas A. Doyle III he.........

[ Doctor dies after getting stuck in chimney ] - A doctor involved in an "on-again, off-again" relationship apparently tried to force her way into her
boyfriend's home by sliding down the chimney, police said on Tuesday. Her decomposing body was found there three days later.

Gaddafi in 'Black Europe' Warning
[ Gaddafi wants EU cash to stop African migrants ] - Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi says the EU should pay Libya at least 5bn euros (£4bn; $6.3bn) a year to stop illegal African immigration and avoid a "black Europe".
Speaking on a visit to Italy, Col Gaddafi said Europe "could turn into Africa" as "there are millions of Africans who want to come in".
Italy has drawn criticism for handing over to Libya migrants it intercepts at sea, without screening them first.
Far fewer now reach Italy from Libya.
European Commission figures show that in 2009 the number of people caught trying.........

[ Fierce hurricane heads toward US ] - Powerful Hurricane Earl barrelled toward the US East Coast on Tuesday, amid warnings it could cause catastrophic damage after dumping heavy rain and wind on Caribbean islands.
Packing fierce winds of up to 215km/h, Earl, now a powerful category four storm, brushed past Puerto Rico and churned toward the Atlantic, as experts forecast it may reach North Carolina by midweek and travel northward from there.
If the forecasts are accurate, Earl will likely wreck plans for vacationers this Labour Day weekend, prompting them to desert area beaches.
The hurricane damaged homes, downed trees, blocked roads
and snapped power lines in the Caribbean, including the........

Russia Skinheads Attack Concertgoers With Clubs
[ Russia skinheads attack concertgoers ] - Scores of bare-chested skinheads have attacked a crowd of about 3000 people at a rock concert in central Russia, beating them with clubs, media reports say.
Dozens of people were left bloodied and dazed in today's attack, television and news agencies reported, and state news channel Rossiya-24 said a 14-year-old girl was killed at the concert in Miass, 1400km east of Moscow.
Fourteen ambulances were called to the scene, the channel said, citing witness accounts. The motive for the attack was not known, and authorities couldn't be reached for comment.
The ITAR-Tass agency said local police had refused comment.
Many of Russia's top rock acts were attending the "Tornado" rock festival, the agency said.
Attacks on dark-skinned foreigners in Moscow and St Petersburg by Russia's neo-Nazi skinhead movement have been..........

Nigeria: Occultism Is The Solution!
[ Nigeria: Occultism Is The Solution! ] - One can hear a number of our Nigerian university students cheering and saying, "aha, we know it; we
know that cultism is the only safe way through school, and when we graduate, we will metamorphose into our fathers' occults to take our places in the nation-we
always knew we were right." As for our fathers and our leaders of the ages, "what an old man sees while sitting down, the young can't see even while standing"- so they
often quote. But suppose, only supposing, that I beg to differ in this case, will the generals involved dare to consider this truth they have only refused to acknowledge for decades?
There once was a young man who had to, as a matter of no-alternative, become a cult member in order to muster enough bullies to rig the
councilorship election in his favour. And he sure won. I once knew of a local government chairman who, on campaigning, had to offer the life
of his first son before he could be granted the chairmanship position of his L.G.A. The story is..........

Taliban Attackers in US Uniforms
[ Taliban attackers in US uniforms ] - About two dozen Taliban militants - at least some dressed in US military uniforms - were killed on Saturday in a failed attempt
to storm two US-run bases in a city in eastern Afghanistan, Nato said.
The attackers targeted US-run Forward Operating Bases (FOB) Salerno and Chapman, Nato's International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) said in a statement.
Amid a spike in military deaths, the brazen attacks underscored the threats faced by foreign forces in Afghanistan as the insurgency drags towards its tenth year.
The alliance said its troops had "repelled two failed attacks at bases in Khost", killing a total of
24 insurgents with the help of Afghan security forces. There were no.........

Mr Skosana, 43, had an HIV test in front of his congregation at the non-denominational Way of Life church in Khayelitsha, an impoverished township
on the outskirts of Cape Town. The test was also taken by 100 young people from the township.
