A 19-year-old man wanted for questioning in the shooting of a Nigerian tourist in Riverside's Eastside neighborhood turned up at Riverside Community Hospital at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday with a gunshot wound to his thigh, police said. Riverside police Lt. Mark McFall said the man was walking near Columbia and Chicago avenues in Riverside shortly before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when he heard a popping sound and realized that he had been shot. The 19-year-old's mother took him to the hospital, McFall said. Police Sgt. John Capen said he could not release the man's name because he is a crime victim. Capen said the man was in violation of his probation requirements. The man also was wanted for questioning about the Aug. 6 shooting of a Nigerian tourist at an Eastside service station, Capen said. The victim, Edward Nwajagu, 44, of Oklahoma City, was shot in the head and is still at Riverside Community Hospital. Another man, Jose Enrique Martinez, 27, was arrested Aug. 9 in connection with service station shooting. He pleaded not guilty last month to one count of being an accessory after the fact, court records show. Police Sgt. Leon Phillips said police believe Martinez drove the pickup truck in which the shooter was riding.
