Muhammad Ali's daughter, Laila Ali,. will fight August 5 in Cape Town, South Africa, against Ijeoma Egbunine, an Atlanta-based Nigerian. Ali, the women's WBC champion, is 22-0 with 19 knockouts and Ijeoma Egbunine 12-1. Ali was quoted as saying, "There's a lot of love for Ali in South Africa. I'm following in my dad's footsteps and I am definitely going to knock this girl out." It will be her first visit to Africa and also her first fight in the continent. Her father, Muhammad Ali, thirty two years ago in Zaire, now Congo, knocked out George Foreman in the famed "Rumble in the Jungle" heavyweight title bout. Ali's fight will benefit the Nelson Mandela Foundation and will be part of the celebration of women's empowerment in South Africa. "Whether my father fought in Africa or not, I would go to Africa because it's just one of those places you want to go," she said when reminded of her father's fight in Africa.. Muhammad Ali, who at 64 suffers from Parkinson's disease, is invited to the fight . On her father's invitation Ali said, "Sometimes you don't know until the last minute whether he's going to make it or not," she said. "It just depends on how he feels." Ali is expected to arrive South Africa three weeks before the fight, visiting schools and impoverished neighborhoods.
